Hamlet by John Marsden
In his new novel,Marsden creates his own retelling of Shakespeare's Hamlet by getting into each of the character's heads . Each chapter revolves around a different character, which to me, adds depth to the well-known story. Aside from the different views, I also enjoyed how it was written in modern English. Because of Marsden's translation, I was able to understand and connect with the characters more than with the original Shakespearean text. I am currently reading Hamlet in English class, so this book was very helpful to me. However, it does not follow the Shakespearean text entirely; there are scenes added in or mixed together. Nevertheless, I loved how Marsden portrayed the complex characters, and added his own style to the story. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys deep characters, plot twists, and descriptive writing styles.
