Project 17 by Laurie Faria Stolarz

Project 17 by Laurie Faria Stolarz I, being a fan of eerie occurrences, picked up the library's copy of Project 17 with particular interest. Everything about about it, even the cover, drew me in. Plus, I am a fan of Stolarz's other novels- the Blue is for Nightmares series and Bleed. But the thing that really kept my attention was the plot. On the eve of the local mental hospital's destruction, six teenagers break and enter the hospital to create a documentary. Their clashing personalities only add to the stress of making it through the night at Danvers State Hospital. And then there are the budding romances in the group... Derek the player, Liza the perfectionist, Chet the clown, Mimi the rebel, and Ton and Greta the theater rats are soon thrown into adventure when they find a specific patient's journal and artwork. What follows can only be described as supernatural. Overall, I would give this book four out of five stars. Although it was wonderfully written, Project 17 could be a bit slow at times. But on the upside, the novel could really chill you to the bone, especially if one was reading at night. I highly recommend Project 17 and hope you enjoy it. ~ Natalie R.
