Dreamhunter Duet by Elizabeth Knox

Dreamhunter Duet Books by Elizabeth Knox These two books take place an alternate universe in New Zealand around the early 1900's. This world is very similar to our own, with one exception, an invisible world called The Place. This mysterious world is only accessible to a select few called "Dreamhunters." In The Place, Dreamhunters are able to catch dreams and present them to the ordinary world as a form of entertainment. Cousins Laura Hame and Rose Tiebold are related to the most famous Dreamhunters, so everyone expects that they will both succeed in their Try (a ceremony in which people 15 and older see if they can enter The Place). Unexpectedly, the more reserved and passive of the two, Laura, succeeds while Rose, who is more confident and strong, doesn't. Now both try to deal with their new unexpected futures as well as the frightening dreams Laura experiences. How close are these dreams to reality? At first I found the books a little slow to read, the beginning was a little boring and hard to understand, but as the plot advanced, I couldn't get enough of it. The characters are so realistic, filled with their quirks, flaws, and strengths, and the plot was filled with action, twists and suspense. After I finished the second book, I was sad that it ended. This is an excellent series and I really recommend it.-Amanda M.
