Heart on a chain is about a girl named Kate who gets abused by her mom. Her life right now is awful. The kids at school trip her, shove her in lockers, and take away her lunch-- the only meal she gets for the day. Her life at home is even worse than at school. She is forced to clean the house while her mom sits around doing drugs all day. Her dad is never home and when he gets paid on Fridays he goes out and drinks till there is no money left to spend, sending Kate’s mom in a rampage. On the first day of school everything changes when she sees Henry, her ex-boyfriend from sixth grade that moved away that summer and never told her that he was moving. As Henry comes spiraling back into her life she has to decide if his being nice to her is all just part of the game they all play or if he really wants to be with her. This book was a fast easy read that I could not put down.
