If I stay

The contrast between the past and the present makes it a little difficult to get through the book. When you’re reading about the present it moves quickly and smoothly, but when you’re reading about the past you just want to know what’s going on with her currently and what choice she will make and how she makes that choice. The past moves slowly, and yes it gives you background which sets up the scene very well but it’s just a drag because of the seriousness and the dramatic effect of the present of her in the hospital and how she gets through it. The ending is difficult to understand because it could go either way, she could have chose to live and she needed her boyfriend to help her make that decision to give her that strength or she could have chose to let go of herself and move on with her family, which could also go with saying that she needed her boyfriend to help her be strong enough to let go.
